Mr. Saleh Al-Fatimi - Designing Kuwait's Future

Finding an educator with both academic knowledge and real-world experience can be difficult and at times, quite elusive.   AIU has managed to find that sought-after instructor and he has made a home for himself in the School of Architecture and Design.  Mr. Saleh Al-Fatimi, an Interior Design instructor at AIU, took some time out of his busy schedule to talk a little about his experiences, his passions, and his opinions on the field of interior design.

Born and raised in Kuwait, Al-Fatimi graduated from Kuwait University then went on to De Montfort University in the UK to obtain an MA in Interior Design.  Having loved art since he was young, especially pop art and live sketching, it was no surprise that Al-Fatimi pursued a career in the world of design.  After graduating, and working for a while in the industry, Al-Fatimi started his own design and architectural firm, Bdesign International, in 2009.  Bdesign was an instant success and has designed numerous locations throughout Kuwait including, Ahmed Lari Mosque, Farwania Mall, Al Arbash Jewelry in Mubarikiya, Ibn Al Nafis middle school, and the Quran Center in Jaber Al Ahmad.

Al-Fatimi’s passion for design stems from his passion for Kuwait.  In Al-Fatimi’s mind, the ability to create one’s own interior space not only benefits the individual but also the country as a whole.  He stated that more and more people are living and working inside these days and that the youth of Kuwait would soon change the way people live.  Al-Fatimi believes everyone should have the benefit of a beautifully designed interior.  With that said, he agrees that interior design is a good major for students to pursue.  By studying interior design, students can create a relationship between humans and their space providing a better lifestyle for the whole of Kuwait.  He stated that studying design at AIU is beneficial because the facilities are top-level.  AIU has many material resources including labs, 3D printing machines, and laser cutting technology.  In addition, the expert faculty is highly experienced, not just as faculty but as dedicated professionals in their fields.  Students interested in studying design are encouraged to follow in Mr. Al-Fatimi’s footsteps and realize their passions.
