Faculty Spotlight - Dr. Mazin Sirry Ph.D. leads AIU and Kuwait into the future.

Dr. Mazin Sirry PhD is leading the way for the development of Biomedical Engineering not only at AIU but in all of Kuwait.  AIU is the first university in Kuwait to offer Biomedical Engineering courses and Dr. Sirry is initiating a bold and new direction for advanced education in the region.  Having grown up and receiving his early education in his homeland, Sudan, Sirry went on to South Africa to obtain his MA and PhD from the University of Cape Town.  After studying Cardiovascular Biomechanics, Sirry took his expertise to Mississippi State University in the United States and was responsible for the establishment of a small animal surgical center.

Sirry explained that after his fellowship with Mississippi State and the University of Cape Town, he wanted to take his specialized skills back to Sudan and transfer his knowledge into the research and public service fields. This same gumption is what led Dr. Sirri to Kuwait.  He stated that he always tells his students two things, have self-confidence, and work hard.  Sirry explained that he must change the ways of his student’s thinking stating that professionals in the Biomedical engineering field are not allowed to make mistakes as they are dealing directly with patients who may be in critical need.  Through his approach to critical thinking, problem solving and detail-oriented lectures and research projects, our students are sure to be prepared for the exciting future of Biomedical Engineering.
